The Australian Government is now operating in line with Caretaker Conventions, pending the outcome of the 2025 federal election.

Overview

Australia will soon have country of origin labelling (CoOL) for seafood in hospitality. Restaurants, cafes and similar businesses will need to provide information on where their seafood is from. This will help people make choices about the seafood to buy.

Supermarkets and other shops already need to provide information on where their seafood is from.

Please tell us what you think of our plan for CoOL. Under the plan, businesses will need to provide information on whether seafood is from Australia, imported or both.

We want this to:

  • help people understand where their seafood is from

  • make CoOL simple for businesses

  • be easy to enforce.

Your feedback will help us make our plan better and understand how it will impact people and businesses.
