Overview

Australia has positive conditions for entrepreneurship, but difficulties with commercialisation and scaling businesses.

In 2018, we conducted consultations to understand the needs of innovative Australian Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) seeking to commercialise their business ideas. These consultations focused on intellectual capital, an important source of growth for SMEs.

We are now seeking feedback on the findings of these consultations to help inform policies to address the issues identified.

Discussion paper and report

We have compiled the main findings of the previous consultation into a discussion paper and report.

The discussion paper highlights key findings, options and questions to consider.

The consultation report provides a more complete discussion of the methodology, findings and options to address these findings.

We are interested in your thoughts on:

  • whether the findings and recommendations reflect your experience when commercialising business ideas
  • any important challenges missing from the discussion paper
  • any suggestions on implementation options or innovative ideas to address the findings

Your feedback will inform policy to support the commercialisation of intellectual property by Australian SMEs.
