Overview

We are seeking expressions of interest from Australian quantum technology companies to join a delegation to Expo 2025 Osaka in May.

Delegates will meet with Japanese industry partners, investors, and end-users during a 5-day program of events and site visits organised in cooperation with Austrade, Questacon and Japanese quantum consortium Q-STAR.

The aim of the Australian quantum delegation is to foster new connections with the Japanese quantum ecosystem and provide opportunities for Australian companies to establish a footing in a key market within the region.

Delegates will:

  • meet with Japanese quantum leaders to strengthen relationships

  • identify commercial opportunities

  • develop a first-hand understanding of Japan’s quantum ecosystem

  • participate in a series of events, including the VIP Quantum Showcase at Expo 2025

  • showcase the expertise and innovation of the Australian quantum ecosystem

  • be a part of promoting Australia’s fast-growing and agile quantum industry.

Our department will contribute to travel and accommodation costs.

    Australia-Japan Quantum Technology Collaboration Summit, Australian Embassy, Tokyo: Sponsored by Austrade, this event will include keynotes and panel discussions aimed at identifying industry-facing collaborative opportunities in quantum technologies between Australian and Japanese companies. The summit will be followed by a networking session to encourage participating companies to jointly take next steps with each other.

    Expo 2025 Osaka – Questacon Quantum Workshop: Communicating Quantum Science and Technology: Questacon – The National Science and Technology Centre is bringing its expertise in engaging science communication for all ages to the complex topic of quantum mechanics. Targeted at educators of the next generation of quantum innovators in the Asia-Pacific region, this workshop will bring together a panel of leading Australian scientists with an audience of quantum experts from both Australia and Japan to discuss the future of quantum learning for students from elementary school to university.

    Expo 2025 Osaka – Department of Industry, Science and Resources VIP Quantum Showcase: In this keystone event, Australian quantum companies will engage in a panel discussion to a curated audience of Japanese investors and end-users. Delegates will share the lessons they have learned over the course of the week and their insights into opportunities for Australia-Japan collaboration. This is an opportunity for companies to demonstrate the role that they can play in Japan’s 2030 quantum vision.

    Expo 2025 Osaka – Quantum Delegation Networking: Following the VIP showcase, delegates and audience members will be invited to share drinks and conversation in a more relaxed setting at the Australian Pavilion’s VIP terrace.

Selection criteria

We will assess applications on your ability to:

  • explain why Japan is a market of interest

  • describe how this opportunity could lead to future collaboration with the Japanese quantum ecosystem

  • outline your objectives and goals in Japan over the next 6-12 months

  • describe how your quantum products or services are of interest to the Japanese market

  • identify Japanese target customers or partners

  • explain your product or service to investors and end-users who may not have a technical background

  • highlight how your capabilities or endeavours align with the Expo Osaka 2025 theme ‘Designing Future Society for our Lives’.
