The Department of Industry, Science and Resources (referred to as ‘we’, ‘us’ and ‘our’ in this Privacy Collection Statement) is bound by the Australian Privacy Principles (APP) in Schedule 1 of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (Privacy Act). The Privacy Act regulates how we may collect, use, disclose and store personal information. We also hold personal information in accordance with the Archives Act 1983 (Cth).

We use technology by Converlens Pty Ltd to provide this consultation service and website. Converlens complies with the Privacy Act and stores data securely in Australia.

In this consultation we will collect personal information, including your name, signature, address, email address, phone number and employment details, along with your comments and opinions on the issues papers. This personal information will provide us with demographic information about those making submissions to this consultation to inform policy development. Your personal information may also be used by us to contact you to seek further clarification on your consultation response where required. We may use artificial intelligence (AI) programs such as Microsoft Copilot and Azure OpenAI to assist in analysis of submissions, which may include processing your personal information. Our use of these tools will be governed by Australian government responsible AI guidance. All outputs by Copilot and Azure OpenAI will be subject to review by our staff.

Personal information you provide to us will be disclosed to relevant staff to progress and finalise this work and support other work on this topic across the Australian Government. It may also be disclosed to the expert panel responsible for leading the Strategic Examination of Research and Development to progress and finalise this work. It may also be disclosed to ministerial offices and other Australian Government agencies with an interest in the matters in the consultation paper. These agencies include, but are not limited to the Treasury, the Department of Education and the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. Your submission may be used for direct attribution and quotes in both material from the panel, Minister and us.

By including personal information in your response, you consent to us collecting, using and disclosing that information in accordance with the Privacy Act and the APPs. If you need to include personal information about another individual in your response, you will need to inform that individual of the contents of this statement and obtain their consent to us collecting their personal information. We will not use or disclose personal information without your consent, except where authorised or required by law. We may refer to the content in your submission in future documents produced by the panel or SERD Secretariat.
