Collecting and using your personal information

The Department of Industry, Science and Resources is bound by the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) in Schedule 1 of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). The Privacy Act regulates how we may collect, use, disclose and store personal information. We also hold personal information in accordance with the Archives Act 1983 (Cth).

In this consultation, we will collect personal information from you including your name, organisation, phone, email, location, comments and opinions. This personal information will provide the department with demographic information about those making submissions to this consultation to inform policy development. Your personal information may also be used to contact you to seek further clarification on your consultation response where required.

We may use Microsoft Copilot and Azure OpenAI to assist in analysis of submissions, which may include processing your personal information. All outputs by Copilot and Azure OpenAI will be subject to review by departmental staff.

Sharing your personal information

We use technology by Converlens Pty Ltd to provide this consultation service and website. Converlens complies with the Privacy Act 1988 and stores data securely in Australia. More information about Converlens Pty Ltd, including their Privacy Policy, is available from their website.

Personal information you provide will be disclosed to departmental staff to progress and finalise this work and support other work on this topic across the Australian Government. It may also be disclosed to the expert panel responsible for leading the Strategic Examination of Research and Development to progress and finalise this work. It may also be disclosed to ministerial offices and other Australian Government agencies with an interest in the matters in the consultation paper. These agencies include, but are not limited to the Treasury, the Department of Education and the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

Your decision to keep your submission public, anonymous or private, only applies to whether we publish your submission on the website and not whether we will share it with other Australian Government agencies.

By including personal information in your response, you consent to the department collecting, using and disclosing that information in accordance with the Privacy Act and the APPs. If you need to include personal information about another individual in your response, you will need to inform that individual of the contents of this statement and obtain their consent to us collecting their personal information.

We will not otherwise use or disclose your personal information without your consent, except where authorised or required by law. If we would like to refer to content in your submission in future (e.g. in a report), we will contact you to obtain your consent before doing so.
