Privacy Collection Statement

The Department of Industry, Science, Energy and resources (the department) is conducting a consultation process to inform a review of the accessibility of the patent system for small-to-medium sized enterprises (SMEs). 

The department is bound by the Australian Privacy Principles outlined in Schedule 1 of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), which regulates how we may collect, use, disclose and store personal information.  

The department will collect from this consultation your personal information, including your name, business characteristics, diversity characteristics, comments and opinions, to inform and improve the effectiveness and accessibility of the patent system for SMEs.   

Your personal information will be disclosed to: 

  • the Review Leader, Emeritus Professor Raoul Mortley AO and
  • the Review Secretariat team, in the department.

The Review Leader will aggregate the consultation and research findings to produce a final report. We will use your name and organisation name when listing contributors to the review, unless you indicate it should be kept confidential. We will publish your submission unless you indicate it should be kept confidential. Your other personal information will not be disclosed in the final report. The final report will be tabled in Parliament.   

Your personal information will not be used or disclosed without your consent, except as set out above or where authorised or required by law.  

Personal information will be stored and held in accordance with the department’s obligations under the Archives Act 1983 (Cth). For further information, please refer to the Department’s Privacy Policy.
