Overview
On 18 August 2015, the Government asked the Productivity Commission to undertake an inquiry into Australia's intellectual property arrangements, delivering on a key recommendation from the Competition Policy Review. The Productivity Commission completed its public inquiry on 23 September 2016. The Government released the final report on 20 December 2016 and is considering its response.

The Department is conducting a consultation process to inform its response to the Productivity Commission’s inquiry into Intellectual Property Arrangements.
The Department is bound by the Australian Privacy Principles outlined in Schedule 1 of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), which regulates how we may collect, use, disclose and store personal information.
The Department will collect from this consultation your personal information, including your name, email, business name and your opinions on the Productivity Commission’s recommendations to inform the Government’s response. Your personal information will be accessed by staff who are involved in development the Government’s response and may be published on the department’s website. Your personal information will not be used or disclosed without your consent, except as set out above or where authorised or required by law.

Why your views matter
The Government recognises the significant stakeholder contributions made during the Commission’s consultation on the draft report. In considering its response to the final report, the Government will have regard to the submissions provided to the inquiry process.
The Government now invites stakeholder views on issues raised in the final report that stakeholders may not have had the opportunity to comment on, or in areas where they wish to provide additional views.
In particular the Government welcomes further comments on the final recommendations listed in the following document, which are in addition or different to those contained in the Commission’s draft report.
Stakeholders are not required to resubmit information contained in previous submissions.
What happens next
The Government is considering its final response to the Productivity Commission inquiry. This response will be released in due course.
