Overview

We are reviewing the regulatory regime for the safety of workers in the offshore oil and gas sector as part of our commitment to continuous regulatory improvement. Our offshore resources safety review aims to ensure the regime is fit-for-purpose, up-to-date and reflects leading practice.

This evidence-based review will look at the Safety Regulations and Schedule 3 (Occupational Health and Safety) of the Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage (OPGGS) Act. It will also consider any other matters under the OPGGS Act necessary for a comprehensive review of the safety regime.

Discussion Paper

We have prepared a discussion paper informed by input from stakeholders  at Safety Workshops (Melbourne, August 2018 and Perth, October 2018) and close consultation with the Safety Stakeholder Group (a consultative group established for this review comprising union, industry, workforce and government representatives). The paper also takes into consideration the recommendations of the senate inquiry into the work health and safety of workers in the offshore petroleum industry, held in 2018.

We are interested in your views on the issues and questions in the discussion paper and invite you to make a written submission to the review. Submissions do not need to respond to all questions, and may include issues that are not covered in the paper.

The feedback and evidence you provide will help the department to better understand what is working well and what you think could be improved.

Submissions

You can provide your comments, ideas and suggestions by uploading a written submission.

Your submission will be published unless you indicate that it should be kept confidential.
