Please provide any general comments you may have on the potential areas for the 2019 Offshore Petroleum Exploration Acreage Release below:
Provide General Comments
The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) is a Commonwealth agency responsible for maritime safety, protection of the marine environment from ship-sourced pollution and maritime and aviation search and rescue.
Applicants should note that significant amounts of heavy commercial shipping traffic may be encountered in some release areas. Therefore, measures to mitigate the risk of collision with transiting ships must be taken in all cases.
Information on AMSA’s role in offshore oil and gas exploration, including information on the consultation process required by the environment regulations for offshore petroleum activities is available on the AMSA website https://www.amsa.gov.au/safety-navigation/navigating-coastal-waters/offshore-oil-and-gas-exploration
