The release of this and any other acreage for petroleum exploration is contrary to Australia's national interest.
Australia (and the world) needs less O&G exploration and less burning of hydrocarbons. Releasing prospective acreage will increase CO2 emissions (not to mention fugitive emissions). It will hinder Australia's transition to an independent and geo-politically stable and renewable energy system.
For avoidance of doubt, the figleaf of CCS cannot be demonstrated to work without subsidy and for the geological timeframes required. It is not a solution.
The argument of regional jobs is misleading (this can be elaborated on if requested).
