Any future exploration or potential extraction from these areas should consider the existing activities conducted within these waters by both commercial and recreational anglers. NT Zone 19-1-C is particularly significant for a number of NT fisheries. The Northern half of this zone supports extensive habitat for offshore snapper species and is well utilized by the NT Offshore Snapper Fisheries. Similarly, the Eastern and South-Eastern portion of this zone is well frequented by the Fishing Tour Operator sector who regularly take clients on long-range fishing trips to this area. Other fisheries to utilize this zone (as well as Zone W19-4-C and NT 19-2-C) include the Offshore Net and Line Fishery, Spanish Mackerel Fishery, Coastal Line Fishery, Aquarium Fishery and Small Pelagic Development Fishery.
Any proposed exploration (particularly using 3D seismic technology) should be considered only after extensive consultation with the Northern Territory Seafood Council (NTSC), the Northern Territory Guided Fishing Industry Association (NTGFIA) and members of the general fishing industry within the Northern Territory.
