The Australian Government is now operating in line with Caretaker Conventions, pending the outcome of the 2025 federal election.

Overview

The National Measurement Institute (NMI) has been working with the International Organisation of Legal Metrology (OIML) to review OIML R 76.

OIML R 76 is the international:

  • standard for non-automatic weighing instruments

  • recommendation for the requirements and testing procedures used to evaluate these instruments.

We sought feedback on the first committee draft (1 CD) of the OIML R 76 review between August and September 2023. The OIML committee reviewed those comments but didn't accept them all. We’re now seeking feedback on the first revision of the committee draft (1.1 CD).

The comments you give us will form part of a combined Australian submission on the 1.1 CD review. Your insights will allow us to better represent Australian industry and help international trade through this recommendation.

When OIML complete their revision they’ll publish a new edition of OIML R 76. We’ll then consider adopting the new addition as Australia’s pattern approval requirements for non-automatic weighing instruments.
