I have the same confidence in those measurements I do not actively monitor (e.g. electricity supply) as those which I do (e.g. weighing groceries on a scale).

My comment is a general one. Australia has a very goood measuremnt system. however, uncertainty arises when measuremnt is used for regulation and the uncertainty of measuremnt instruments and processes is not taken into account. for example, if there is a maximum residue limit for an agricchemical it can be rjested on the basis of exceding the MRL, even it the level measured falls within the bounds of measurement uncertainty.

Measurement uncertainty should be incorporated in and regulatory decision making process.

This also reflects the need for standardised testing methodologies, ring testing to asess the capability of laboratories (particularly in the international context).

There is also confusion between the reponsibilities for intational mesuremnt in the fields of labeling, where there can be adiffernce in OIML standards and Codex Standards. Codex should have primacy for food.
