I have the same confidence in those measurements I do not actively monitor (e.g. electricity supply) as those which I do (e.g. weighing groceries on a scale).

The supply by on-premise outlets of poured alcohol to consumers is extremely poor with very little inspection or compliance being maintained by the NMI and it verification team within pubs and bars broadly. This not only extends to spirits but wine served by the glass as well.

Measurement of alcohol and wine requires updating to meet the needs of a modern hospitality environment.

Most of our well founded laws no longer serves the interest of the public leaving consumers exposed to

. being under served
. being innocently over served
. not being sufficiently protected over a growing range of popular spirit categories where it's seems akin to the wild west

The concept of a cocktail whereby 2 spirited liquids are mixed together to then render the server un- liable for the volumes they serve is an unacceptable public risk.

Considerations of permissible or regulated serves must be re-examined given the popularity of cocktails and the growing numbers of consumers enjoying on-premise

45 mL should become a regulated serve to assure and protect consumers

5/10mL serves of spirits or self administered medicinal liquids should be considered for regulation via NMI approved devices

I am more than happy to present my thoughts in a more detailed document if invited to.
