Designs Amendment (Advisory Council on Intellectual Property Response) Bill 2020

Closed 28 Aug 2020

Opened 23 Jul 2020

IP Australia is seeking your views on an exposure draft of a Designs Amendment Bill and Designs Amendment Regulations (‘draft legislation’). The draft legislation aims to deliver early benefits to designers ahead of further design initiatives currently in development. This includes a 12-month grace period as a safety net for designers and simplified design registration process.

Visit their consultation page for details on the consultation and to provide a submission.

Additionally, as part of IP Australia’s ongoing program of designs reform, they have recently concluded a year-long review, researching the Australian design economy and the role of design rights. This includes a series of research reports and the release of an Information Pack which summarises key findings and outlines next steps for designs reform. Initiatives include removing accessibility barriers in designs, giving Australian businesses who engage in design better access to the tools and information they need, and exploring and preparing for further possible policy and legislative reforms.
