The Industry Growth Centres Initiative (the Initiative), announced as part of the Industry Innovation and Competitiveness Agenda on 14 October 2014, is a key part of the government’s new industry policy direction to boost Australia's productivity and competitiveness.

The Initiative will drive growth and jobs creation by playing to Australia’s strengths and concentrating investment on sectors with a competitive advantage.

The Initiative will be delivered through Industry Growth Centres (Growth Centres) which will initially be established in five key sectors of the Australian economy within the Industry Portfolio: food and agribusiness; mining equipment, technology and services; medical technologies and pharmaceuticals; advanced manufacturing; and oil, gas and energy resources.

While Growth Centres will be flexible in their approach to addressing barriers to success, they will all focus on bringing together business and research, increasing commercialisation opportunities, addressing regulatory barriers, forging closer links with global supply chains, and enhancing workforce skills.

The Chairs and Facilitators will work with their respective sectors to develop a Growth Centre proposal for the Minister for Industry and Science's consideration. This process will not involve individual consortia developing bids to be a Growth Centre.

By adding your details to the sector engagement list, you are identifying yourself or your organisation as a key stakeholder in one of the five growth sectors who is interested in actively contributing to the development of a Growth Centre proposal. This list will be used by Chairs and Facilitators to assist them to engage with their respective sectors.
