Privacy Collection Statement

The department is bound by the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) outlined in Schedule 1 of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (Privacy Act) which regulates how entities may collect, use, disclose and store personal information. Your personal information is being collected by the department to assist in the development of government policy in relation to franchising issues within the new car retailing supply chain, and to enable it to contact you regarding your response if required.

The department will collect personal information including your name and email address, the name and type of business or organisation you represent, your job title and your opinion on the matters discussed in the Explanatory Statement. This information may be published on the department’s website. However, if you request, contact details can be redacted prior to the submission being published.

The personal information collected may also be disclosed to and used by the relevant Ministers and their offices, other relevant Commonwealth government agencies (Recipients) and any relevant contractors providing services to the Recipients, for the purpose of briefing on the results of the consultation.

Personal information obtained will be stored and held in accordance with the department’s obligations under the Archives Act 1983 (Cth). Personal information obtained will only be used and disclosed for the purposes outlined above and will not be used or disclosed without your consent, except where authorised or required by law. Confidential Information

The department may publish submissions on the department’s website, unless the submission is marked as confidential. Automatically generated confidentiality statements in emails do not suffice for this purpose. Respondents who would like part of their submission to remain in confidence should provide this information marked as such in a separate attachment and clearly identify the confidential text. If only part of your submission is confidential, you may also provide the department with a non-confidential version of the submission which can be published on the department’s website.
