Overview
The Department of Industry, Science and Resources and the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) are seeking feedback on part of an exposure draft legislative package:
Domestic Gas Reservation Bill
Consequential Amendments Bill, including changes to the Gas Market Code
Levy Bill.
This legislation will establish a Domestic Gas Reservation Scheme and implement market reforms to support domestic gas supply and energy security.
Your feedback will inform final draft legislation for the government to consider.
About the Domestic Gas Reservation and reforms
The Domestic Gas Reservation Scheme will require gas exporters to supply a proportion of their total export production to the Australian domestic market on an annual basis. This is their ‘domestic supply obligation’ (DSO).
The government is also progressing complementary market reforms to support transparency and conduct. These reforms seek to ensure effective and efficient gas contracting markets for all gas trades, including for reserved gas. This is also an opportunity to streamline the gas market regulatory framework and manage regulatory burden.
