How can the draft recommendations be improved to drive systemic change?
The Federal Government should require gender equality action plans from companies who secure government tech contracts, which is estimated to be over $16B in government buying power.
This measure would also ensure 1500+ companies would collectively help deliver the industry recommendations from the Diversity in STEM review.
Those procurement "carrots" could be used to encourage the tech industry to deliver gender equality.
The federal government must ensure tech companies present gender equality action plans before they get access to the government chequebook.
We need to fix the system, not the girls ... the government has both the power and money to change it.
If you want to receive public funds, you need to do the work to support women in the tech industry.
