Privacy Collection Statement

The Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources (Department) is conducting a public consultation process through an online survey (discussion paper) to inform the Impact Evaluation of Country of Origin Labelling for Food.

The department is bound by the Australian Privacy Principles outlined in Schedule 1 of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), which regulates how we may collect, use, disclose and store personal information.

The department will collect your personal information, including your name, organisation, whether you identify as a consumer, business or peak body organisation, the state or territory where you live, and your post code. This information will be used to contact you if needed to seek clarification regarding any comments you provide, and to provide you with updates on the CoOL evaluation, unless you indicate that you do not wish to be contacted. You may elect to participate in the consultation process anonymously, in which case, your personal information will still be collected by the department but it will be kept confidential.  

The department intends to publicly release the contents of submissions in full.  Contents of submissions will be used and referred to in the evaluation report (and other reports) which will be publicly available.  If you would like your submission to be treated as confidential you must clearly indicate this.

Your personal information will be accessed by departmental staff and contractors.  The department will take reasonable steps to ensure that any overseas recipients of such information do not breach privacy obligations relating to your personal information.  However, the overseas recipient or the information may be subject to local legislation.

Your information will not be used or disclosed without your consent, except as set out above or where authorised or required by law. Any request made under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Cth) for a submission marked ‘confidential’ to be made available will be determined in accordance with freedom of information laws.
