A consultation Regulation Impact Statement (RIS) has been prepared to examine options to improve the energy efficiency of air conditioners and chillers. Policy changes considered by the RIS include the costs and benefits of introducing a ‘zoned’ energy rating label that provides location specific information on energy efficiency, harmonisation of Minimum Energy Performance Standards and regulations, and the inclusion of single duct portable air conditioners in the Equipment Energy Efficiency (E3) program.
Interested parties are asked to provide feedback on the consultation RIS. To help inform submissions, public consultation sessions will occur across Australia and New Zealand.
Stakeholder feedback is sought on the policy options presented in this Consultation RIS. This is to ensure that any recommendation and/or decision to change the current energy efficiency requirements is based on an understanding of the full range of stakeholder views.
Following consultation, all submissions will be considered and contribute to a decision as to whether work will proceed to the development of a decision RIS. Any decision RIS would be used to seek agreement for any proposed changes from the relevant New Zealand and Australian federal, state and territory ministers participating in the E3 program.
